KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today gave guarantees and the government’s commitment to continue managing and curbing the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
The Prime Minister who chaired the Special Meeting of the National Security Council (MKN) on the management of the pandemic earlier today said that the Covid-19 situation in the country is currently under control and that the spread of the disease can still be curbed. with continuous cooperation. of various agencies and ongoing public health monitoring activities by the Ministry of Health (MINSA).
“Keep in mind that most of the cases occurred between detainees in prisons, in areas under the Enhanced Movement Control Order for Targets (TEMCO), and from groups that have already been identified and controlled.
“Those areas are being monitored at all times and case detection and close contacts are being actively done to ensure that positive cases can be quickly identified and isolated,” he said in the latest post on his Facebook page today.
Muhyiddin said that to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Sabah, the government would also open more temporary detention and quarantine centers to house illegal immigrants before they could be deported to their home countries.
He said the government had also increased the number of health workers from the Ministry of Health to carry out examinations of those illegal immigrants, as well as the number of security personnel to control the country’s borders to curb the entry of illegal immigrants, especially in Sabah.
“Assets will be mobilized to stop any attempted border intrusion,” he said.
The Prime Minister also assured that the country’s preparedness is at the highest level and is capable of handling the Covid-19 infection as has been done before.
“We have 40 hospitals and 34 quarantine centers with a capacity for 5,674 beds and low-risk treatment for positive cases of Covid-19. The hospital bed occupancy rate currently stands at only 24%.
“Our health facilities also have 437 intensive care unit (ICU) beds and 1,505 ventilators,” he said.
Muhyiddin also called on the public to remain calm in the face of the current Covid-19 situation and to continue to make the new regulations a culture while observing all standard operating procedures established by the authorities.
