KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven occupants of a three-story apartment in Persiaran Syed Putra were recommended to vacate last night after an earth embankment near their building collapsed following heavy rains last night.

A spokesman for the Kuala Lumpur Fire Operations Center said 17 firefighters from the Hang Tuah and Seputeh Fire and Rescue Stations rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call around 10 p.m.

The team found soil erosion on the embankment, affecting six apartment units on the ground floor, he said.

He said the occupants of the affected apartments were advised to leave the premises after an inspection by the Kuala Lumpur City Council found that it was not safe for them to stay there.

Five foreign nationals who were occupying a workers’ accommodation on the embankment were also ordered to be evicted.
