Sabah’s new government begins work with cabinet meeting on Thursday (Oct 1)

KOTA KINABALU: The new Sabah government held its first cabinet meeting on Thursday (October 1) with only six state leaders present, including Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Various topics, including Covid-19, were discussed at the meeting chaired by Hajiji, which lasted more than two hours.

A press conference scheduled to take place after the cabinet meeting was canceled at the last minute. No reason was given.

In a statement after the meeting, Hajiji said that the state has decided to allocate RM50,000 to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic in Sabah, adding that RM10,000 of that will be used for food supplies for people in the four most affected districts.

These districts are Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and Kunak.

He said that all issues related to Covid-19 will now be fully managed by a state Covid-19 disaster management committee.

Hajiji said that this committee will be chaired by the secretary of state, while the director of the Sabah Department of Health, Datuk Dr. Christina Rundi, will be the vice chair.

He added that the previous committee under the Sabah Covid-19 Command Center, during the previous Warisan-led state government, will be abolished.

The three main vice ministers were also present; Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who is also Minister of Labor, Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, who is also Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, and Datuk Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, also Minister of Commerce and Industry.

Also present were the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Second Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and the Minister of Rural Development Datuk Jahid Jahim.
