COVID-19 | Inter-district travel will not be allowed in Sabah from midnight this Saturday, Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced this afternoon.

“The government has decided to impose a district movement control (order) throughout Sabah that will come into effect from 12:01 am on October 3 to October 16.

“However, (staff from) essential services such as food supply, medical, security and others will be able to travel between districts,” Ismail said.

He added that during this period, people whose quarantine period is expiring will be able to return to their respective districts or to the peninsula, Sarawak and Labuan.

Ismail added that the currently directed Enhanced Motion Control (MCO) order enforced in four districts – Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunak – would remain.

The travel ban came when Covid-19 started to rise in Sabah a month ago.

As of noon yesterday, a total of 888 cases were reported in the state, the highest cumulative case count among all states. You currently have 10 active infection groups.

Sabah has also become the new epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia.

Many new cases and clusters in Peninsular Malaysia can be traced back to people with a travel history in the state.

Consult the information of the Ministry of Health

In his statement today, Ismail called for caution against the spread of misinformation and concern about the pandemic.

“I want to emphasize that only the Ministry of Health can determine if a public area has a positive case of Covid-19 […]

“Also, only the Ministry of Health can issue letters on the 14-day quarantine order to people who have close contact with Covid-19 positive patients or have symptoms,” he said.

The minister warned the public that legal action could be taken against those who spread misinformation, as well as those who reveal the name of Covid-19 patients.
