Umno Vice President Mohamad Hasan says members are unhappy and angry about the way the party was treated in Sabah.

PETALING JAYA: Umno Vice President Mohamad Hasan called on Party Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to provide clear guidance and directions so that the party can continue to work with “the competition” after the Sabah elections.

“A strong political consensus must be developed to quell the concerns, dissatisfaction and anger of our members over the way Umno was treated in Sabah,” Mohamad said in a statement.

“If we have to defend ourselves with PAS in Muafakat Nasional and BN together with their components to face the next general elections, then let us decide quickly so that we can prepare.”

Mohamad said the party needs to rethink its political strategy after it went from being the dominant party in Sabah to a minor player after state elections.

The results of Saturday’s elections, he said, showed that Umno’s strategy and political cooperation did not benefit the party.

“What happened in Sabah shows that Umno needs to rethink his approach. If Sabah is taken as a benchmark, Umno’s viability, influence and visibility will suffer in the near future and it will weaken Umno in the long term, ”he said.

Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, said that Umno’s decision to hand over his strongest seats to “certain parties” had affected his strength significantly.

Even sadder, Umno had to face independent candidates sponsored by vested interests to weaken Umno. Promises on cabinet portfolios were also nearly broken. “

Looking ahead, he said, Umno must stop feeling nostalgic for political cooperation in the “Sheraton movement” to save the country.

“That episode ended. The next episode is how Umno will advance the nation, give leadership and create a better Malaysia through BN and not any other political platform.

“We will be judged by what we can offer Malaysia, not by how much we sacrifice for certain matches or the viability of Perikatan Nasional. Let’s get Umno back to the right path, ”he said.
