Sabah Labor Minister Bung Moktar Radin registered his first day of work at the ministry today.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah BN boss Bung Moktar Radin said that his first priority as Sabah’s new minister of works would be to build roads and provide clean water to all Sabah residents.

Bung, who is also deputy chief minister, said this included increasing construction on the Pan Borneo highway project, which has progressed at a slower pace than in Sarawak.

“That (Pan Borneo highway project) is also part of the roads, so it is a must,” he told reporters after reporting on his first day of ministry work here today.

“The road project in Sarawak has already reached 50%, but in Sabah, it is only 18% to 20%, so it does not make sense even though we move together, but we are behind.

“So I will put this in detail to ensure that the project moves faster and people enjoy good roads like in the other states,” he said.

Bung added that the new state government was determined to deliver on its promises in accordance with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s “Aku Janji” electoral manifesto.

Asked whether the controversial Papar dam will continue, Bung said he had not yet received information from the water department.

Meanwhile, Bung said that the Health Ministry had proposed closing the state capital due to the rise in Covid-19 infections.

“No decision has been made on this, but the federal authorities could impose it if the situation worsens,” he said, adding that Kota Kinabalu was about to become a red zone.

As of yesterday, Kota Kinabalu registered 98 cases of Covid-19, of which 18 are still active.
