IPOH: The Congress of Unions of Public Function and Public Function Employees (Cuepacs) wants the government to consider giving a bonus to civil servants this year in the next Budget 2021.

Its president, Adnan Mat, said that he would not want to advance how many months the bond should be, but was hopeful that it would be presented according to the monthly income of civil servants.

He said it has been a long time since civil servants received a bonus and are usually presented with a special allowance at the end of the year to prepare before schools reopen.

“It is time for the employees to receive the bonus, and I hope the Prime Minister will consider this humble request.

“We (officials) continue to work, despite the change of government, and during the movement control order (MCO), as expected of us.

“Therefore, employees deserve a bonus rather than a special allowance as a courtesy,” he told reporters after speaking at the Malay Forest Officers Union of Peninsular Malaysia held in the state Department of Forestry hall here.

Adnan also hoped that during the budget announcement, the government would also review the minimum wage issue.

He said that in light of the new poverty line of ringgit 2,208, the matter should be reviewed.

“With the rising cost of living and the unexpected Covid-19 pandemic, it had affected the lives of many people and also employees.

“Therefore, the revision of the minimum wage is timely,” he added.
