Putting Sabah Travelers Who Can’t Self-Isolate In Quarantine Centers, Says MMA

The Health Ministry said Saturday that all travelers returning from Sabah will need to undergo COVID-19 testing and self-quarantine at home.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) proposes that Putrajaya consider placing people returning from Sabah who are unable to self-isolate at home in quarantine centers.

MMA President Dr. Subramaniam Muniandy said that they should be placed in these centers, as there were some cases at home where physical distancing and isolation might be impossible to practice.

He added that placing all travelers returning from Sabah in quarantine centers would be a safer option, citing previous cases of returnees caught in breach of the home quarantine order.

However, he praised the decision of the Ministry of Health to take preventive measures by testing all travelers returning from the state and imposing a home quarantine on them.

“These next two to three weeks will be important in controlling the spread of Covid-19 infections, as a large number of travelers from Sabah will return to other states after the state elections.

“All returnees must ensure they fully comply with quarantine and standard operating procedures or new groups may emerge throughout the country,” he said in a statement today.

Subramaniam also urged employers to make sure their workers have a clean health certificate and are free of Covid-19 before asking them to return to work.

“Employees must also be honest with their employers about their health status with proper documentation.”
