KUCHING (September 29): Sarawak registered three imported cases of Covid-19 here today, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 709, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said.
It said in a statement that Case 707 involved a local woman who had just returned from Saudi Arabia.
“The case was working as a nurse in a hospital in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and had departed for Malaysia through King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh, on September 24.
“He arrived in Kuala Lumpur at noon on September 25 before continuing his flight to Kuching in the evening of the same day,” he said.
The committee said that when the case was at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA-1), it was tested for Covid-19 using the RTK antigen test which came back negative.
“She then boarded her KLIA-2 flight to Kuching and upon arrival at Kuching International Airport (KIA), she was immediately placed in the hotel’s quarantine center for a mandatory 14-day quarantine.
“On September 27, which is day two of the quarantine, the case was again screened for Covid-19 using the rT-PCR test that came back positive on September 28,” he said, adding that the case was asymptomatic and had been referred. to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for additional treatment the same day.
He added that this case has been classified as an imported case in view of the fact that the patient was infected while abroad.
For cases 708 and 709, SDMC said these cases involved a Myanmar citizenship husband and wife who had just returned from their home country holidays via Kuala Lumpur.
“Case 708, who is the wife of Case 709, is a professor at a university in Sarawak and has worked here since 2012. She has returned to Myanmar on vacation since February 25, 2020.
On September 12, both cases flew from Yangon, Myanmar to Malaysia via KLIA-1 where, upon arrival, they were quarantined at the hotel’s quarantine center in Kuala Lumpur and underwent the rT-PCR test. for Covid-19 the same day. .
“The results of the first screening test for both cases were also negative for Covid-19 on the same day, while the second test that used the RTK antigen on September 21 also came back negative,” he said, noting that the couple also they continued their quarantine until September 25.
On September 26, both cases flew back to Kuching via KLIA-1 and, upon arrival at KIA, were immediately placed in the hotel’s quarantine center to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine, as they had not yet stayed in Malaysia for 30 days before. entering Sarawak, SDMC said.
He said that on the second day (September 27) of the quarantine, both cases were tested for Covid-19 through the rT-PCR test that came back positive today (September 29).
“Both cases are asymptomatic and have been referred to SGH for additional treatment the same day.
“These two cases are also classified as import cases,” he added.
SDMC said that with the three new positive cases recorded, this resulted in eight patients now being treated at hospitals across the state, of which four are treated at SGH, three at Miri Hospital and one at Bintulu Hospital.
“There are also no Covid-19 patients who have recovered or been discharged from hospitals today.
“The total number of recoveries remains at 682, which represents 96.19 percent of total cases,” he said.
He also noted that one reported case in Sandakan, Sabah, who received treatment at Bintulu hospital, has since recovered and was allowed to be released from the hospital today.
On the number of persons under investigation (PUI), SDMC said that today 11 new cases were registered with one case pending the result of the laboratory test.
Since the first positive case of Covid-19 was reported on March 13, the state has recorded a total of 19 deaths.
Kuching and Lawas districts remain as yellow zones after three local infection cases in Lawas and one local case in Kuching reported in the last 14 days.
