TM reveals why the Unifi TV app is not working on your Android TV device

[ad_1]

A couple of months ago, Unifi launched its Unifi TV app for Android TV that allows subscribers to view their IPTV and VOD content on the big screen. This would be useful for subscribers without the cable box, as the app allows them to enjoy Unifi TV content on media boxes and smart TVs running on Google’s Android TV.

Although you can download and install the application from the Android TV Play Store, some of our readers have received errors such as “Account in the middle of migration”. We asked TM’s CMO Lai Shu Wei about the issue and they told us the app is best experienced with TM’s Unifi Plus Box. He added that other Android TV devices are not optimized at the moment.

Box TM Unifi Plus

The Unifi Plus Box with Android TV is currently offered free of charge to Unifi subscribers with the TV Ultimate Pack, which costs an additional RM 60 per month. If you need an additional Unifi Plus Box, it is offered for RM20 / month with a 24-month contract.

For users without a Plus Box, TM recommends its customers to download the Unifi Play TV app on their smartphones or tablets. The application is available on both the Apple AppStore and the Google Play Store.

It is strange that TM has not optimized the application for all Android TV devices, as the application would help to increase the audience of its IPTV service. We managed to install and log into an account on a first-generation Xiaomi Mi Box running on Android TV 8.0. Switching between live TV channels was pretty straightforward and you can also view the video content on demand list.

According to the FAQ shown above, the app was supposed to be compatible with Android TV devices that are certified by Google. If the Android TV OS device could run YouTube and Netflix smoothly, most users would expect the Unifi app to be compatible.
