Ismail Sabri: 82 Arrested Monday (Sep 28) for Violating Recovery MCO

PUTRAJAYA: Police arrested 82 people within 24 hours for violating the Recovery Movement Control (MCO) order.

In a statement, Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that of the 82 detained on Monday (September 28), six were detained in pre-trial detention, while another 75 received compounds.

One was released on bail.

Ismail Sabri said that MCO recovery offenses that were committed included failing to comply with physical distancing (46 people), not wearing face masks (23), failing to provide check-in facilities for clients (12), and participating in pub / disco activities (one).

The arrests were made during checks carried out by the police on Monday (September 29), who are leading the government’s task force on compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

On Monday, 12,937 officers from the task force conducted a total of 55,086 controls.

The locations monitored included supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, and public transport terminals.

Ismail Sabri, who is Defense Minister, said that the police, along with Malaysian Border Security and the Malaysian Armed Forces, had erected 81 barricades across the country on Monday under “Ops Benteng”.

Ismail Sabri said authorities managed to transport 29 undocumented immigrants and two smugglers.

Ops Benteng was created to control the country’s borders against illegal entry, which at the same time also prevents the transmission of Covid-19 from abroad.

Ismail Sabri also said that between July 24 and September 29, a total of 37,133 people entered the country through international entry points.

So far, 8,671 people are currently in mandatory quarantine, while another 28,356 have already been discharged.

Another 106 people have been sent to hospitals for treatment.

The individuals are placed in 67 hotels, as well as 10 public training institutions, as well as private institutions of higher education throughout the country, to be quarantined.

Ismail Sabri also said that the Ministry of Housing and Local Government had conducted 18 Covid-19 sanitation exercises in various states: Kedah (five operations), Sabah (four), Penang (two), Pahang (two), Sarawak (two) , Selangor (one), Negri Sembilan (one) and Melaka (one) on Monday.

He said that since March 30, the ministry had carried out 10,153 sanitation operations in 135 areas.

Ismail Sabri said Monday that enforcement officials from the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs have carried out 948 checks at business facilities on compliance with SOPs.

“Based on the controls, it is found that 933 locations have adhered to the government SOPs. Another 15 companies were advised not to follow standard operating procedures, ”he said.
