Neglecting personal health increases risk of breast cancer

SHAH ALAM: There is a tendency for women to neglect their personal health, especially when they have young children.

As a result, they don’t undergo regular health screenings that could reveal the first signs of illness before it’s too late.

According to the president of the Malaysian Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), Ranjit Kaur, this means that almost half of women are already in stages three or four of cancer when they start treatment.

He said that one in 20 women in Malaysia is diagnosed with breast cancer each year, underscoring the urgency of early detection.

Ranjit spoke to reporters at the launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club (GGCC) yesterday.

“Early detection and medical treatment for breast cancer has many advantages, including the possibility of saving the breast and ultimately life, which implies less drastic treatment and costs while reducing physical, financial, emotional and spiritual, ”he said.

In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, golfers will collaborate to help raise money for BCWA. The campaign is sponsored by the GGCC “PinkTober” campaign.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility, we will highlight the importance of breast cancer awareness among golfers and the local community,” club president Datuk Nizam Azman Mohd Zain told reporters.

“Every ringgit raised by the club in October will go to BCWA and hopefully make a difference in the lives of Malaysian women affected by breast cancer,” said Nizam.

This is the first time that the club has launched an initiative in support of a breast cancer awareness campaign.

“We hope this encourages other top players in the golf industry to follow suit and support associations fighting for the same cause as BCWA,” he said.

As part of the campaign, GGCC offers female golfers a special green fee rate of RM 120.

Any man in a pink shirt or pants can play on weekdays for just RM185.

Aside from that, GGCC will also have its charity giveaway where members of the public can purchase tickets at RM10 each and have a chance to win prizes including golf merchandise, complimentary golf vouchers, hotel stays, food vouchers and drink, plus wellness vouchers, worth over RM25,000.
