KUALA LUMPUR: Shopping malls have emphasized the protection and well-being of shoppers as a top priority at all times and have taken all possible measures to avoid Covid-19 infections.

The Malaysian Shopping Center Association, in a statement last night, said that the complete sanitation, proper disinfection and deep cleaning of the areas visited by those infected with Covid-19 had been carried out in strict accordance with the guidelines established by the Ministry of Health.

“The safety of all staff, tenants, customers, visitors and shoppers is a primary concern and shopping centers are following accepted SOPs.

“These include contact tracing, temperature monitoring, wearing masks, supplying hand sanitizers at the entrances to shopping malls and other strategic locations for shoppers and also for staff,” he said here last night.

The association said that once shoppers have passed through entrances, retailers go through the same procedure again with contact tracing and hand sanitizing at store entrances (with optional temperature controls, as the implementation of the QR code scanning would allow effective contact tracing).

“So there is a double selection of public trust and safety. We are confident that this unprecedented pandemic will be overcome in the near future with rigorous and coordinated attention from our government, the public, and the business community, ”he said.

In the last 10 days, several cases of Covid-19 had been reported involving the staff of five shopping centers in the Klang Valley.Called
