Couple who visited Sabah in the new Selangor cluster

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health today announced a new cluster in Selangor, called the Jalan Apas cluster.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the index cases involved a husband and wife with a history of travel to Tawau and Semporna.

The couple visited Sabah from September 13-16, before returning to show symptoms of cough, fever and flu on September 18.

Six other cases between close contacts

The couple were referred to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on September 24 before testing positive for Covid-19. Noor Hisham said that they are currently receiving treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“The results of the close contact screening tests identified another six positive cases of Covid-19 on September 27.

To date, 66 people have been examined, ”he said. He added that of those tested, 56 tested negative and two others were awaiting test results.

“Preventive measures have been taken, including disinfection and cleaning, in the places involved. The source of infection is still under investigation. “

46 new cases in the Bangau-Bangau cluster, Sabah

Meanwhile, there were 46 new cases related to the Bangau-Bangau group in Semporna, Sabah, bringing the total number of infections to 225.

A total of 369 people linked to the group have been examined, and 110 are awaiting test results.

Benteng LD Cluster: The 39 new cases in Benteng’s LD group have brought the group’s infection count to 873. A total of 11,042 people have been examined as of noon.

Noor Hisham said that 1,395 people in Tawau and 234 in Lahad Datu are still awaiting their test results.

Island cluster: Two new cases bring the count to 49 for the group. A total of 931 people have been examined, 348 in Kunak and 100 in Semporna still awaiting their results.

Buang Sayang and Sungai: One new infection each, bringing the total number of cases in the two groups to 292 and 99 respectively.

A total of 224 people linked to the Buang Sayang group and 22 from the Sungai group are still awaiting the results of their tests.

“Close contact assessments and active case finding for these groups are still ongoing and updates on the latest status will be provided from time to time,” said Noor Hisham.
