Curtis Jones’ flashy performances mean Jürgen Klopp is now looking to wear him in matches “as often as possible.”

Scouser, 19, has produced five goals in his 16 appearances for the Reds senior team after making his debut in January 2019.

Two of that tally came Thursday night when Jones showed his bravery by curling in a pair of excellent efforts against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup, and as a result he took home the Man of the Match award.

When asked about the confident behavior of the number 17, Klopp said: “Self-confidence for a soccer player is very important because you generally play in front of 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 thousand people and without confidence that is not It’s possible, I can tell you, yes, it helps.

“Doing the right thing at the right times also helps. That’s what he had to learn in recent years because he was absolutely exceptional and maybe the best player in every age group he was in.

“[That] it means he had to learn to play alongside other players – he made huge strides in that department. He had brilliant role models on this team.

“And now, the door is open. I don’t want the performance to be less than it was because it is absolutely exceptional. The way he scores, the way he contributes to the game, all of that is really exceptional.”

“But Curtis knows there is a lot of room for improvement, like being in a 90+ minute game, being really involved, not just on the field and these kinds of things.

“There is room for improvement. It’s good.”

To develop his potential, Jones works closely at Melwood with Vitor Matos, Liverpool’s elite development coach.

Klopp continued: “He’s a hardworking kid, so he loves all these comments, all the information we give him, all the analysis we do.

“He is in the best hands with Vitor Matos, all the young people are. I am the coach, but Vitor is their coach really.”

“They are part of our training, obviously, but you can’t analyze each player every day and give them feedback. But the few young guys that we have, we can do that and Vitor is really on it.

“It’s a really good situation right now and the plan is to use it as often as possible because of the way it acts.”
