KUCHING: Sarawak registered two new positive Covid-19 cases in Lawas today, bringing the cumulative Covid-19 case count to 706, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said.

SDMC said both cases involved local men, who served as a vanguard at the Sarawak-Sabah border post in Merapok, Lawas.

“They were examined on September 20 because it was suspected that they had come into contact with a positive case of Covid-19 while they were carrying out their duties at the mentioned border post.

“Their detection samples were sent to the Kota Kinabalu Public Health Laboratory in Sabah and the rT-PCR test on September 26 found that their detection samples tested positive for Covid-19,” SDMC said in its update press release. daily today.

SDMC said that one of these cases showed symptoms and signs of Covid-19 infection on September 7, adding that the other case did not show any symptoms or signs.

He said both cases had been referred to Miri Hospital for immediate medical attention.

“Preliminary investigations indicated that both cases had no history of travel abroad or visits to red zones in Sabah.

“The cause of the infections is still being investigated and the results of the preliminary investigations led to the possibility that the two cases became infected while performing their front-line duties at the border post,” added SDMC.

SDMC said preliminary investigations also found that the two cases had no connections to each other, in addition to serving at the same location.

As such, SDMC said investigations were ongoing to determine if there would be a new Covid-19 cluster.

“Contact tracing for the two cases, including their relatives, coworkers and social contacts, is being carried out proactively,” he said.

SDMC said that no new recovered and discharged cases were registered today, keeping the cumulative number of cases recovered and discharged at 681 or 96.46 percent of the total.

However, six cases were still being treated in hospitals, SDMC said, adding that three of which were at Miri Hospital and one at Sarawak General Hospital, Bintulu Hospital and Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

“No case of Covid-19 is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Kindly know that the only reported case in Sandakan, Sabah, is being treated at Bintulu Hospital. “

SDMC said cumulative death cases stood at 19 or 2.69 percent of the total, adding that two persons under investigation (PUI) were reported.

He added that the police had issued four composite notices to individuals, three in Kuching and one in Kota Samarahan, who violated standard operating procedures (SOPs).
