KOTA KINABALU: The President of Parti Cinta Sabah, Anifah Aman, graciously accepted the poor performance of his party in the state elections.
Anifah said that despite having lost all 73 seats he contested, he is happy with the support shown by the people, as the party had undergone its name change less than two months ago.
“We continue to have support in the form of votes, although we did not win,” he said in a statement here today.
“The numbers were small but sufficient for a new match in their long fight. Imagine if we had enough time to prepare … I think PCS can get more support.
“The Sabahans have spoken. We accept these voices with humility and respect. However, as president, I hope that whatever happens, don’t stop fighting for your rights as children of Sabah. “
Anifah lost to Daud Yusof of Warisan in a four-way battle for the Bongawan state seat, which is within the Kimanis parliamentary area, garnering 3,598 votes to Daud’s 5,400 votes.
Barisan Nasional’s Ag Syairin came in third with 3,548 votes, while LDP’s Mohd Azree Abd Ghani lost his deposit after collecting only 232 votes.
Anifah, a former federal minister, also advised his defeated candidates to take stock of what they had learned in state elections to better prepare for the upcoming elections.
“This experience is vital for us to assess our weaknesses and strengths.
“And believe that PCS will continue to be with you in the fight,” he said.
