PUTRAJAYA (THE STAR / ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – Foreigners arriving in Malaysia through various points of entry must now pay the full fee of RM 4,700 (S $ 1,550) for mandatory Covid-19 quarantine, the chief minister said (security group) Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Thursday (September 24).
Previously, both Malays and non-Malays had to pay RM 2,100 for room and board during the two-week quarantine period in a hotel or rooms provided by the government.
But foreign nationals will now have to pay an additional RM 2,600 for operating costs, said Datuk Seri Ismail.
The government will continue to subsidize operating costs for Malaysians, he said.
“As of Thursday, all non-Malaysians entering the country from their international points of entry will have to pay full charges,” Ismail said in a statement.
“The government has decided to continue subsidizing quarantine costs for Malaysians. Malaysians will only have to pay RM 2,100 for their accommodation, while the government will pay RM 2,600 for operating costs.
“For foreigners, they will have to pay the full charges of RM4700,” he said.
For the second and third people who can share a room with the first person, like a couple and their six-year-old son, they will pay RM 700 per person, Ismail Sabri said.
Children under the age of six are exempt from the fees, he added.
Since July 24, the government has said that all people arriving in Malaysia must undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine in hotels or institutes.
Ismail said that as of Wednesday, a total of 33,354 people arrived at the country’s international entry points and were quarantined.
He said 8,005 people are currently under the quarantine order, while 103 have been sent to hospitals for treatment.
Some 25,426 have been discharged and allowed to return to their homes.
