COVID-19 | Malaysia has reported 71 new cases of Covid-19 in the 24 hours to noon today, of which two cases were imported while the remaining 69 are locally acquired infections.

Sabah again accounts for the majority of local cases with 63 out of 69 new cases today, despite the Benteng LD cluster, which is now the second largest Covid-19 cluster in Malaysia and has seen large increases in the last days, only one case was registered today.

However, there are still 1,754 people still awaiting test results in Benteng’s LD group, out of 10,521 who had been tested. The number of cases in the Benteng LD cluster is now 730.

While Benteng’s LD group appears to have slowed down for today, other Sabah groups have seen double-digit growth in the number of cases.

The Bangau-Bangau group in Semporna has registered 47 new cases today, for a total of 60 cases.

The group was first reported on September 22 after a pre-admission evaluation at Semporna Hospital, which had discovered five cases of Covid-19.

Yesterday, eight new cases were reported and two others that previously tested positive on September 18 were identified as part of the group. Furthermore, five of yesterday’s cases are from the same town as the previous cases.

In a statement today, the director general of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that so far 105 people have been examined in the group.

As of noon today, 60 had tested positive, including 47 new cases, while 45 are still pending results.

Meanwhile, Laut’s group in Kunak reported 10 new cases, bringing the total to 22.

Noor Hisham said 488 have been tested in this group and 114 are still awaiting results.
