PUTRAJAYA: Foreigners arriving in Malaysia via its various points of entry will have to pay the mandatory Covid-19 quarantine fees in full from now on, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Defense Minister said on Thursday (September 24) that the government will only continue to subsidize quarantine costs for Malaysian citizens.
“The government has decided that all people arriving in the country through its points of entry will have to assume quarantine charges.
“This order has only applied to non-Malaysian seafarers.
“As of Thursday, all non-Malaysians entering the country from their international points of entry will be required to pay full charges.
“The government has decided to continue subsidizing the costs of quarantine for Malaysians. Malaysians will only have to pay RM 2,100 for their accommodation, while the government will pay for operational costs of RM 2,600.
“For foreigners, they will have to pay the full charges of RM 4700,” Ismail Sabri said in a statement on Thursday.
For the second and third people who can share a room with the first person, they will pay RM700 per person, Ismail Sabri said.
Children under the age of six are exempt from the fees, he added.
Since July 24, the government had said that all people arriving in Malaysia must undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine in hotels or institutes.
Ismail Sabri said that as of September 23, a total of 33,354 people arrived at the country’s international points of entry and were quarantined.
He said 8,005 people are currently under the quarantine order, while 103 have been sent to hospitals for treatment.
Some 25,426 have been discharged and allowed to return to their homes.
