Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin says the government will continue to ensure that financial institutions help people and businesses during this difficult period.

KUALA LUMPUR: Up to 98% of the requests for extension of the moratorium and specific banking assistance have been approved, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

“In July, I announced an extension of the moratorium and targeted banking assistance.

“As of September 11, financial institutions have had conversations with more than 1.4 million borrowers, and more than 380,000 borrowers have confirmed that they need such assistance,” he said while delivering Kita Prihatin’s special address today.

Muhyiddin said that the government will continue to monitor the latest developments and ensure that financial institutions play a role in helping people and businesses in need of assistance in dealing with this challenging period.

He urged citizens who have not submitted their applications to contact their respective banks.

To ease the burden on businesses and households affected by the spread of Covid-19, the government in April announced a deferral of loan payments, including home loans and installment purchases, for a period of six months.

This moratorium program will expire at the end of September.
