KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched a search for three men who carried out a daring robbery on the Besraya road, where they seized gems and cash from a gold seller on Monday.

The victim was traveling in a four-wheel drive pick-up truck driven by his friend from Jalan Kuchai Lama to Sungai Besi around 3.30 pm when two vehicles similar to his assaulted them.

When forcing them to stop, the thieves, who were armed with parang, got out and pulled them out of their vehicle before grabbing bags containing the gems.

The robbers later escaped the scene and also left with the victims’ vehicle.

Brickfields Police Chief ACP Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin said the 47-year-old seller and his 24-year-old friend suffered minor injuries from shards of glass from a broken windshield.

He said the victims were on their way to supply gold to various goldsmith shops here and the estimated value of their losses is not yet known.

Zairulnizam said the stolen vehicle was later found burned in Damansara.

A short video that was captured by a passing car of the ongoing robbery was widely shared on social media Monday.

The video showed the robbers in ski masks grabbing a bag from the victims’ vehicle.

Those with information on the case are urged to contact Brickfields Police at 03-22979222.
