KUCHING: Sarawak reported two new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (September 22) after four days of zero cases, bringing the state’s count of confirmed infections to 703.

The state disaster management committee said one of the cases involved a Sarawak construction worker from Serian who was working in Kuching.

“He began coughing on September 18 and tested positive for Covid-19 while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kuching on September 21. He was referred to Sarawak General Hospital on the same day for further treatment,” the committee said. in a sentence.

The case is classified as local transmission as the patient has no history of travel abroad or to other states in Malaysia.

Investigations are ongoing and the Kuching and Serian Divisional Health Offices are conducting active contact tracing based on patient movements.

“With the report of this case broadcast locally, the Kuching district is now a yellow zone again. The other 39 districts in Sarawak are still green zones,” the committee said.

Yellow zones are areas with between one and 40 local broadcasts in the last 14 days.

The committee said the second new case was an imported case involving an Indonesian worker who traveled from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur on September 12.

His rapid antigen test on KLIA2 came back negative and he flew to Bintulu the same day.

While undergoing the mandatory 14-day quarantine in Bintulu, his second PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test on September 21 came back positive and he was admitted to Bintulu Hospital the same day.

“The case is asymptomatic and contact tracing is ongoing,” the committee said.
