KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin, founder of Sapura Energy Bhd, retires from his executive position in March after spending 25 years at the helm of the oil and gas company.

He will be replaced by Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib, former Executive Vice President of Petroliam Nasional Bhd.

“Under his leadership, Sapura Energy has grown from a local player to a renowned global oil and gas company serving the entire upstream value chain,” President Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas said in a statement today.

“Shahril’s legacy will be the Group’s highly qualified and technically capable multinational human capital, world-class strategic assets, strong processes and strong project management capabilities.”

Shahril will leave his positions with the company after his 60-year retirement on March 22, 2021.

The company has appointed Anuar as Chief Operating Officer and Designated Chief Executive Officer effective October 1, as part of a six-month transition.

Anuar was appointed an independent and non-executive director of Sapura Energy in August 2020.

“We are transforming Sapura Energy to remain relevant and competitive in the new energy landscape,” said Shahril.

“Our agile strategy, the right capabilities and the entrepreneurial spirit cultivated over the years will allow us to embrace the new energy transition,” he added.
