PETALING JAYA: The Armed Forces dismissed Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi’s alleged comments that Malaysian security forces only fought “chickens and dogs” during the Lahad Datu intrusion in 2013.

The head of the Armed Forces, Jen Tan Sri Affendi Buang, said that those irresponsible comments had also offended relatives of the Armed Forces and police personnel who had died fighting the intruders.

“The accusations undermined the roles and responsibility of the Armed Forces and security personnel in defending our national sovereignty at that time.

“Such irresponsible comments are unacceptable,” he said.

Mohamaddin has come under fire for his alleged comments on the intrusion for which he has since apologized, saying his comments were taken out of context.

“Malaysians are reminded not to make misleading statements that could undermine harmony,” Affendi said, adding that safeguarding national sovereignty and dignity is a collective responsibility.

“Since its inception 87 years ago, the Armed Forces have defended the nation with their blood and sweat, in order to safeguard peace, harmony and well-being.

“Our priority is national defense,” he said.
