Liverpool legend Michael Owen has explained why Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was also to blame for the Blues’ red card.

Frank Lampard saw Andreas Christensen being sent off for dragging Sadio Mane to the ground in the first half after a VAR review.

The center-back was running to help a hurrying Kepa, who conceded two goals in the 2-0 defeat.

While the 25-year-old was able to stay on the field, Owen suggested he played a much bigger role in the disappearance of his teammate.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, the former striker said: “We hear many times that goalkeepers create nervousness in all four of their defenders and I think he’s a perfect example.

“Clear mistake and when you reflect in the half without the error and the penalty we tied the game 1-1.

“In fact, I am happier in many ways [with the performance] than it was after Brighton on Monday. ”

The Blues boss added: “It’s a clear mistake that cost us, then we have a penalty that we were able to score.

“He has to keep working, he has support around him.”

It comes when an expert believes that Kepa “sent a message” to his coach with his reaction to Mane’s second goal.
