Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the discussion will cover health and safety issues.

SANDAKAN: The cabinet will discuss the Covid-19 situation in Sabah on Tuesday, a few days before the state elections on September 26, following the growing number of positive cases in the state.

Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the discussions will cover health and safety issues in Sabah.

“Following the increase in cases in Sabah before the polls, the issue will be raised at the meeting this Tuesday. The meeting will involve all ministries and security, ”he said today at a press conference in Batu Sapi.

On claims that a member of the Umno Supreme Council had tested positive for Covid-19 while campaigning in Sipitang, Ismail said that no official report has been made.

However, if proven true and positive, Ismail said the individual would be quarantined in Sabah until he makes a full recovery. “That’s why I always ask (people) to comply with the SOPs issued by the government.”

Currently, four active groups have been registered in Sabah, where the Benteng group has the highest number of cases with 578 Covid-19 infections, followed by the Pulau group (15), the Selamat group (7) and the Bakau group (4) .
