KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is confident that he will be able to get enough support to be prime minister if Pakatan Harapan wins the next general election.

Anwar was responding to DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng, who was quoted by news reports as saying that Anwar should give way to Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal if he cannot get the support he needed to be prime minister.

“He (Lim) gave his opinion and we listened to his opinions, no problems. He said I should give way if I can’t (get the support).

“My answer for him is yes, God willing,” he told reporters when he met on the sidelines of a ceramah in Api-Api on Sunday (September 20).

DAP’s endorsement of Shafie as prime minister remains a sensitive issue in Pakatan.

Lim’s comments had sparked criticism from PKR leaders where Anwar’s daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar tweeted: “Focus on choosing Sabah instead of running to break the spirit of friendship (setiakawan).”

Questions were also raised about DAP’s endorsement of Shafie as prime minister, as Shafie leads Warisan, a Sabah-based regional party with only nine MPs compared to PKR, which has 38 MPs.

Later, Anwar headed to the Inanam constituency for another ceramah, but was interrupted because there was no permit.

However, he was allowed to give his speech, which lasted about 10 minutes.

He said it was important for Sabahans to vote for a stable coalition like Warisan Plus.

He affirmed that Perikatan Nasional is a weak government due to the small parliamentary majority it had.

“The government is not that stable, so don’t be so arrogant. A majority of two to three, anytime they can go and believe me they will soon. “

Also present were PKR senior leaders, Dr. Xavier Jayakumar and Sim Tze Hin, as well as Chan Foong Hin from DAP.

“It is improper for the police and Electoral Commission (EC) officers to go directly to Anwar. They should have approached the candidate’s representative (on the permit issue), ”Dr. Xavier said at a press conference.

Sim said they couldn’t get the permit because the show was planned last Friday (September 18).

“This program was planned last Friday night, and when we wanted to apply on Saturday morning, (EC) was closed,” he said.
