PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will join the Covax Vaccine Plan for Covid-19 vaccines, says the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

“The Malaysian government will join the global access to the Covid-19 (Covax) vaccine to obtain part of the required vaccine.

“The government is discussing the terms for Malaysia’s entry with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi), which operates Covax,” the ministry said in a statement on Saturday (September 19).

In addition to Covax, the ministry said it is also working with other parties to obtain Covid-19 vaccines.

We are also preparing the agreement to enter the Coalition for Innovations in Epidemic and Preparedness (Cepi), as well as a government-to-government agreement with the Chinese government to receive access to the vaccine being developed by the country’s pharmaceutical companies.

“The Malaysian government, through the Ministry of Health, has also signed several confidentiality agreements with international pharmaceutical companies that are in phase three of testing their vaccine to discuss vaccine supply,” he said.

The statement added that by participating, partnerships with other countries and discussions with pharmaceutical companies would ensure that Malaysia receives the required amount of vaccines.

He added that it would also ensure that the vaccines received are made after a test of safe use and effectiveness, as well as buying them at an appropriate price.
