PETALING JAYA: Seven men and one woman were arrested after raids on illegal online gambling centers in the district.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said police raided the first center, located in an office premises at PJU 1A / 2, Ara Jalan Damansara, around 2.30pm on Friday (September 18).

“We arrested five men and a woman between the ages of 20 and 35.

“They worked as operators and supervised online gambling activities at the facilities,” he said when contacted.

A total of 11 computers and 40 mobile phones used to promote slot games and a live casino were also seized, it added.

“They have been operating for about a year and raising around RM18,000 per day.

“They also targeted local customers,” he said.

A further investigation led police to another unit in the same office block at 2:45 pm the same day, ACP Nik Ezanee said.

“We arrested a 21-year-old man who worked as an operator of online gambling activities.

“Five computers and six mobile phones were also seized from the facilities,” he said.

The second location had been operating for about a year, earning RM5,000 a day, said ACP Nik Ezanee.

“We also detained a 40-year-old man representing the unions, who arrived during the raid.

“The man tried to negotiate with the assault team in an attempt to free the detainees. He was detained even before he could make an offer.”

ACP Nik Ezanee said police hoped to gather more intelligence from the latest arrests.

“We are working hard to identify the mastermind of the union, as well as the owner of the premises.

“We are also grateful to the people of Petaling Jaya who provided the police with vital information that led to the arrests,” he added.
