Telekom Malaysia said there have been “no changes to the upload speed settings” from its Unifi plan of 500 Mbps (megabits per second), contrary to online reports that the company reduced the upload speed from 200 Mbps to 100 Mbps.
Instead, the company said there was an error in the original marketing material for the 500Mbps plan.
“We wish to inform that a correction was made to an error in the upload speed for the 500Mbps packet indicated in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), Unifi portal and brochures on September 2,” TM said in a statement to LifestyleTech.
It added that the correct upload speed for its Unifi 500Mbps plan is 100Mbps instead of 200Mbps, and not as stated in the earlier versions of the FAQs, the Unifi portal, and the brochures.
The company apologized to customers for any inconvenience caused, adding that its website and marketing materials have been updated to reflect the correct information.
The 500Mbps Unifi plan, introduced last month, costs RM249 per month.
Based on the FAQ, customers who want a higher upload speed can opt for the 800Mbps plan, which has an upload speed of 200Mbps and is priced at RM 349 per month.
The company also claimed that the upload speed offered with its Unifi plan is sufficient for almost all customers.
“Based on usage statistics from our current Unifi customers, 90% of total users only used less than 5 Mbps for upload. Common genuine usage includes gaming, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), FTP (Voice over Internet Protocol). file transfer), CCTV (closed circuit television) and video streaming and other high latency applications, “TM said in the FAQ.
