TASEK GELUGOR: The Penang Health Department ordered the closure of two food processing factories and a grocery store for 14 days due to the unsatisfactory level of cleanliness of the facilities.

Mohd Wazir Khalid, Director of Environmental Health at the Food Safety and Quality Division (pix) said the raids were carried out in collaboration with the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), and the three locals also received compounds of RM 20,000 each for various hygiene-related offenses.

One of the facilities raided was a “mi sua” noodle processing factory in Kampung Selamat, which operated without a license, which was located opposite a pig farm.

“This factory was previously raided in 2012 and until now it has been operating illegally.

“From the perspective of the Ministry of Health, we are against the location as it can cause food contamination. I let the licensing department act, ”he told reporters after carrying out the operation here today.

He added that the noodles produced were processed on the floor and dried in an open area where there was a possibility that the noodles were contaminated with foreign elements, including bird droppings.

The second location raided was a coconut processing factory, also located in Kampung Selamat, which was found to be operating in dirty conditions and without a license.

He said workers were seen stepping on dried coconut, and the coconuts were stored in dirty containers placed near a toilet with the possibility of contamination such as cholera and typhoid.

The latest raid was carried out at a grocery store in Tasek Gelugor and the inspection results found rat droppings and items that were sold long after their expiration date, he said.Named
