They were also charged with dumping unlicensed scheduled waste into the environment, leading to pollution.

The crimes were allegedly committed at the Yip Chee Seng & Sons facilities between September 2 and 3.

If convicted under a section of the Penal Code, the men could face a prison sentence of between five and 30 years, or a fine, or both.

If convicted under the Environment Act, they face a fine not exceeding RM 100,000 (Singapore $ 32,900) or a jail sentence not exceeding five years, or both.

Session Court Judge Syafeera Said refused to grant bail to the defendants and set October 27 as a mention.

Earlier, Deputy Prosecutor Mohamad Iskandar Ahmad asked the court not to exercise its discretion to grant bail to defendants as they are charged with a non-bail offense.

He added that the incident had caused difficulties for many in the Klang Valley due to water supply cuts for five days.
