KOTA KINABALU: PBS chief information officer Joniston Bangkuai has yet to get over the way Upko president’s former close ally Wilfred Madius Tangau turned his back on Barisan Nasional (BN), even though it happened more than two years.

He said that Tangau not only got rid of BN, but also reverted to the “misompuru” pact (which means unity in Kadazan) that the latter had preached with him when they were campaigning for the 14 general elections (GE14) in May 2018.

Despite being hurt by the betrayal, Bangkuai said he still considers the Tuaran MP as a friend.

“I do not hate it. He’s still my friend, but he left us, ”he said yesterday during a meeting with people in Kampung Tudan-Poring, Kiulu.

“In the last general election, we campaigned together under the banner of Misompuru.

“In fact, it was his suggestion (Tangau) that the three main parties of Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) then under the BN – Upko, PBS and PBRS – form an official pact as a united front to face the elections.

“As a result, a presidential council made up of the three party presidents was created and we won. Unfortunately, after the elections, she left us to form an alliance with the Warisan-led government. “

Bangkuai is defending the rural headquarters of Kiulu, which is located in the Tuaran parliamentary area, against Tangau and four other candidates in the Sabah elections to be held on September 26.

Professionally, Bangkuai said that he has no qualms about working with Tangau in the spirit of developing Kiulu.

“If the previous state government was willing to cooperate with the federal government despite being part of the federal opposition, why can’t we do the same for Kiulu?” He said.

On another note, Bangkuai said that PBS is no longer in BN, so the party is using its own symbol for state elections.

“We call on the voters to stand firm on the meaning of integrity, principle and dignity. If they do, I know they will make the right decision. “
