PETALING JAYA: There are still many who refuse to wear a mask or keep a safe distance from others, even if it is for their own good.

Police arrested 512 of these criminals on Saturday, according to Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In addition to not wearing a mask as required by standard operating procedures (SOPs), some have been found to engage in activities that make social distancing difficult, such as attending private gatherings.

Commercial operators have been equally guilty, maintaining their operations beyond the allowed hours.

Ismail Sabri said in a statement yesterday that 452 of those arrested have paid a fine, 59 have been detained and one was released on bail.

The SOP, implemented to help stop the spread of Covid-19, should be watched by all as the country is still under the control of the recovery movement (RMCO), he said.

In addition, 11,825 people from 2,663 workforce teams carried out checks in 3,989 supermarkets, 5,405 restaurants, 1,331 street vendors, 1,146 factories, 3,860 bank premises and 663 government offices.

“They also monitored 1,146 land transport terminals, 211 maritime or water transport terminals and 108 air terminals,” added Ismail Sabri.

Meanwhile, Ops Benteng, to crack down on undocumented immigrants, continued to arrest 80 people who did not have the proper documents, as well as six suspected smugglers at 82 roadblocks set up across the country on Saturday.

Ismail Sabri said that from July 24 to last Saturday, 28,063 people who arrived in Malaysia through KLIA had been tested for Covid-19.

Among them, 69 were sent to the hospital while the rest were allowed to return home.

As of Saturday, a total of 10,187 people were in home quarantine, he added.
