KUALA LUMPUR: Business closing time in Kuala Lumpur is now 2 am, not midnight, as previously decided by the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL), says Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
The Federal Territories minister said he had discussed the matter at length with the city’s mayor, Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan.
Annuar said the two reached an agreement that the companies can extend their hours of operation so that they have a chance to recoup losses due to restrictions imposed during the motion control order (MCO).
However, the FT minister warned companies not to take advantage of the situation during the MCO recovery period.
“After 2 am, close your store, go home and sleep. Don’t continue until the wee hours of the morning,” Annuar said during a beautification program at Taman Awam Rimba Kiara here on Sunday (September 13).
On Saturday (September 12), DBKL said that restaurants and other businesses in the city will have to close before midnight.
This is despite the decision of the National Security Council (MKN) that allows companies to operate until 2 a.m. M.
DBKL said daily observation of 7,200 business locations revealed the need for better compliance with standard operating procedure during the MCO recovery.
On Thursday (September 10), Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the National Security Council had agreed to extend the hours of operation for all businesses, including restaurants and convenience stores, until 2 a.m. am, following requests from operators.
