Over 290 Caught in Nightclubs for Violating Malaysia’s COVID-19 Measures

KUALA LUMPUR: A record 294 people were recorded on Saturday (September 12) for violating Malaysia’s COVID-19 Recovery Motion Control Order (RMCO) regulations.

They were among 512 people arrested for various crimes.

A total of 103 people were found to have organized activities with large crowds, police said.

Fifty-six people were arrested for their participation in private parties, 32 had not provided entry records to the facility and 14 were captured for not wearing face masks.

There were eight crimes related to premises that operated beyond the allowed hours.

“Of the total detainees, compounds were handed over to 452 people, while 59 offenders were placed in preventive custody and one was released on bail,” Chief Minister (Security Group) Ismail Sabri Yaacob said in a statement Sunday.

Giving an update on the number of citizens who have returned from abroad, Ismail said that since July 24, more than 28,000 Malaysians have returned from 32 countries and cities through international checkpoints.

Of these, 10,187 people are in mandatory quarantine at 69 hotels and eight other facilities, including public training institutes and private learning institutions, while 69 people were transferred to hospitals for treatment.

“A total of 17,807 people have been discharged and allowed to return to their homes,” he said.
