ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor government is waiting for Putrajaya to approve an allocation of RM30mil for the construction of a 350m pedestrian walkway on the Johor Causeway.

The Chairman of the Public Works, Transportation and Infrastructure committee, Solihan Badri, said the state government had sent a proposal for the assignment to Putrajaya earlier this year.

“We had initially requested an allocation of RM15mil for the walkway, but have since redesigned the facility to include a roof and escalators.

“Now we are requesting RM30mil for the gangway,” he said, adding that the gangway would also be equipped with air conditioning.

He told this to reporters when he met during the Johor state assembly that sat here in Kota Iskandar on Sunday (September 13).

Solihan said that the proposal for the catwalk was also welcomed by Singapore through its representative in Johor.

“We met with the Consulate General of Singapore in Johor Baru and discussed the matter.

“Singapore also wants to have the walkway as they are also concerned about those who had to cross the causeway,” he said, adding that he hopes the government will approve the budget for the development of the walkway.
