KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) has decided to maintain business hours in KL until midnight during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period.

DBKL in a statement said that the decision was made at the Crisis Management meeting of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur that was convened on September 11, although previously the government had announced that the hours of operation of commercial premises such as restaurants and shops convenience store had been extended until 2.00 am.

The statement said the measure was to standardize business closing hours in the capital, and this would facilitate efficient monitoring by DBKL and other agencies.

“Throughout the RMCO period, DBKL together with other agencies have carried out monitoring and inspections at 7,200 business premises in Kuala Lumpur for compliance with SOPs.”

“Monitoring that takes place every day found that the level of compliance with RMCO’s SOPs still needs to be improved,” according to today’s release.

On September 10, Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the hours of operation of business premises, such as restaurants and convenience stores, had been extended to 2.00 a.m. compared to 12 a.m. midnight previously set.

He was reported to have said this was decided at a special meeting today after receiving numerous complaints from business premises owners that their income was affected due to limited hours of operation.

In this regard, DBKL seeks the cooperation of the owners, operators of commercial premises and the public to always comply with the SOPs established by the government and continue to exercise self-discipline, wear masks, maintain cleanliness and physical distancing when in public places. . -Named
