KOTA KINABALU: Some are young and some are high-level politicians, but they have one thing in common: competing for the Likas seat in a fair, fair and friendly party.
The seven Likas candidates immediately established a WhatsApp chat group with the aim of debating common topics.
MCA’s Dr. Chang Kee Ying, who is the youngest Likas candidate, said it was good to meet and talk with the other candidates.
“I am glad that we are on the same page to serve the people and keep things clean. I am here to learn and accept suggestions on how to better serve the people of Likas,” he said.
“We all want the same thing, which is to help the people of Likas. We don’t want personal attacks on each other, so cybercriminals, stay out of Likas,” said independent candidate Datuk Melanie Chia.

The Likas state seat will see a seven-corner fight between DAP-Warisan Plus incumbent Tan Lee Fatt, Dr. Chang (BN-MCA), Lu Siau Wee @ Jeff (PCS), Daniel Isaac Hoong (Usno), Chong Chee Vui (PPRS), Sim Fui (LDP) and Chia.
Chia said she was happy to see young faces in the fray as it shows hope for Sabah.
The incumbent Tan agreed that there should be no personal attacks and that all candidates and supporters should respect each other.
“This lineup and what we are doing shows how special Sabah is, may the best person win,” he said.
Lu said that after the candidates submitted their nomination forms, they sat down together and discussed how to keep the elections friendly.
“We want to show Sabah and Malaysia that this is how elections are supposed to be,” he said.
Sim reminded supporters and voters to adhere to standard operating procedures and personal hygiene practices throughout the campaign period.
Chong said that they only want to serve the people of Likas, and therefore there is no need to put each other down.
