Separate foreign detainees to control the spread of Covid-19

PERFECT: Following the increase in Covid-19 cases in the Lahad Datu and Tawau districts, the Sabah government has taken drastic measures to curb the spread of the virus, including asking the authorities to segregate foreign detainees.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pix) He said he had held an emergency meeting and told the Sabah police commissioner to isolate foreign detainees who are at risk of being infected with the coronavirus.

“I told the head of the state police to separate the foreign detainees (from the local ones), regardless of whether they were from the Philippines or Indonesia, who could have been infected.

“I will monitor the developments of Covid-19; Alhamdulillah (Praise God), so far is under control, as the increase in (positive) cases only involved the prisons, the Tawau prison, ”he told reporters here yesterday.

Yesterday, the Benteng Group in Sabah continued to record Covid-19 cases, with 167 new cases affecting 76 locals and 91 foreigners.

So far, the Benteng Lahad Datu group has recorded 250 positive cases in Tawau and 87 in Lahad Datu, bringing the group’s cumulative number to 337.

Earlier, the Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that the Benteng Lahad Datu group in the district and in Tawau was under control and not in the community, as it involved illegal immigrants entering the country through of traces of rats.

Mohd Shafie said the state government was providing 10 million masks for distribution statewide, including five million that had been delivered to schools and supermarkets, to help those who were struggling to obtain masks to slow the spread of Covid-19.

“I have told the district officers and village leaders to distribute this supply; we have also provided masks and disinfectants to the district polling stations, ”he added.

Mohd Shafie also reminded the machinery of candidates competing in the Sabah state elections to be cautious and adhere to standard operating procedure to control the spread of Covid-19. – Named
