312 arrested for violating RMCO

PETALING JAYA: A total of 312 people were arrested yesterday for violating the recovery movement control order (RMCO).

Of this number, 267 compounds were issued, 38 were arrested and seven were released on bail.

Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said that among the crimes committed are activities in large groups that make it difficult to maintain social distancing (143 people) and pub or disco activities (70).

“Other crimes committed include not providing equipment or facilities for the search (37), not wearing face masks (23) and a place that operates after hours that is suspected of prostitution.

“Seven foreigners who did not carry travel documents were also arrested,” he said today in a statement.

The arrests were part of 55,693 inspections conducted yesterday by the police Enforcement Operations Task Force.

Ismail Sabri said that Ops Benteng, under the National Task Force which involves the police, the military, the maritime control agency and the border control agency, made 91 arrests yesterday.

“The arrests included a boat captain, an alleged smuggler and 86 illegal immigrants. In Pantai Sungai Rengit, Johor, three foreigners were also detained for not carrying valid identification.

“Meanwhile, 82 roadblocks were also made nationwide to curb the entry of illegal immigrants,” he said.

Ismail Sabri also announced that between July 24 and yesterday, a total of 26,999 people had returned to Malaysia across international borders.

“Of the total, 10,226 are in mandatory quarantine, while 69 people have been sent to hospitals for treatment. A total of 16,704 have been discharged and allowed to return home, ”he added.

He also said that 20 sanitation operations were carried out yesterday, covering two red zones, three yellow zones and 11 green zones in Kedah, Penang, Malacca, Sabah, Sarawak, Negri Sembilan and Pahang.

Ismail Sabri added that the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) conducted investigations at 20 construction sites yesterday.

All but one were found to be compliant, and the sole violator issued a warning.
