Several months after its appearance online, the Kia Seltos has finally been unveiled as part of an official preview for Naza Kia Malaysia. Pricing has not been released yet, but the B-segment SUV is available in two trims: the entry-level 1.6 EX and the 1.6 GT-Line. It is currently also open for reservation, in case you missed the news.
We’ll start with what’s under the hood. The Seltos’ engine is the only 1.6-liter naturally aspirated Gamma MPI four-cylinder engine. It generates 123 hp at 6,300 rpm and 151 Nm of torque at 4,850 rpm, with traction sent to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic. By the way, there is no four wheel drive option, but you have three drive modes: Eco, Normal and Sport, as well as three additional “Traction” modes, which are Snow, Mud or Sand.
In terms of size, the SUV measures 4,315mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,645mm high and has a 2,610mm wheelbase. To put that in perspective, that’s about 19mm shorter than the Honda HR-V (although the wheelbase is identical), but the Kia is 28mm wider and 40mm taller. The Seltos’ boot space is 433 liters, which can be expanded to 900 liters with the seats down.
For equipment, the EX has projector halogen headlights, halogen fog lights, massive tiger nose grille with satin silver trim, bulb-type taillights, satin silver tailgate trim, and dark gray five-twin-spoke 17-inch wheels. Shod with 215/60 profile Goodyear Assurance tires.
The GT Line, on the other hand, is updated with full LED headlights with LED DRLs that extend into the grille, vertical LED fog lights, chrome grille edges with diamond texture finish, chrome door handles (body color). on the EX), red body inserts (front bumper, side moldings, wheel caps and rear bumper) and LED taillights.
There’s also a sportier rear bumper with a plastic insert to mimic a dual exhaust setup, chrome tailgate moldings, GT-Line badges on the grille and tailgate, as well as a two-spoke Y-spoke wheel set. 17 inch shades. Really, a huge visual difference compared to the EX.
Inside, both variants have leather seats as standard. On the Seltos EX, the seats have a nice padded design, while the GT-Line has a more elegant design with contrasting red stitching. The GT-Line is also the only variant here that has three levels of ventilated seat function, and this is only for the two front seats. The EX has manual air conditioning controls, while the GT-Line has a dual-zone automatic system.
On top of that, both cars have an eight-inch touch information display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities (works via a wired USB connection), a leather-wrapped flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel (GT-Line has red stitching and a GT-Line insignia), keyless entry with a start button, as well as a six-speaker sound system with Sound Mood (eight-color, six-theme LED lighting system).
There’s a 3.5-inch digital information display built into the middle of the analog instrumentation, as well as glossy dash inserts, while the GT-Line has a larger seven-inch screen and a leatherette dash trim. The latter also adds an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment, wireless charging tray for Qi smartphones, and alloy pedals (rubber on the EX).
For safety, both cars have six airbags as standard, Isofix child seat anchors, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, traction control system and hill start assist. There is also passive cruise control and reversing camera, but autonomous emergency braking is not part of the kit list. However, the GT-Line has front parking sensors and a front display screen.
Again, no pricing has been published so far. The 2020 Kia Seltos can be seen in select showrooms, and if you’re interested, there are four colors to choose from: Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Intense Red (EX only), and Intelligency Blue (GT-Line only).
