Another hard day for Bursa, Tenaga weighs

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia came off on a weak note on Friday, as investor sentiment was hit by the overnight slide on Wall Street again, with Tenaga Nasional weighing on the FBM KLCI.

At 9.25 a.m. M., The KLCI fell 4.45 points or 0.3% to 1,485.67. The turnover was 948.28 million shares valued at RM621.75 thousand. There were 194 winners, 488 losers, and 295 unchanged counters.

Petronas Dagangan fell 32 sen to RM20.46 and Petronas Gas 12 sen to RM16.42 while Tenaga fell 24 sen to RM11.26 in active trading.

Panasonic was the main loser, down 38 sen to RM28.42 with 4,500 shares made. MPI lost 24 sen to RM16.34, QL Resources 13 sen to RM9.62 and Frontken 12 sen to RM3.26.

Glove makers managed to gain some traction after strong sales the day before.

Top Glove rose 36 sen to RM6.81 and added 4.3 points to the KLCI. Supermax added 46 sen to RM6.56, Careplus 21 sen to RM2.23, Rubberex 18 sen to RM4.48 and Adventa 11 sin higher at RM1.83.

XOX was the most active with 46.88 million shares made, 0.5 sen to 19 sen.

In Bursa on Thursday, local institutions were net sellers at RM236.5k, but foreign funds were net buyers for the second day at RM94.8k and local retail investors RM141.7m.

In early trading on Friday, among key Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.14%, the Hang Seng Index was up 0.16% but Taiwan’s Taiex was 0.29% lower, the Kospi South Korea lost 0.45% and Singapore’s STI 0.33%.

Light crude oil from the United States fell one cent to $ 37.31, but Brent was down six cents to $ 40.

Spot gold rose 97 cents to $ 1,947.07.
