KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Development of Women, Family and Community Datuk Seri Rina Harun (Photo) will soon settle the amount owed by virtue of the debtor court summons filed against him by a Paris-based production company.

His lawyer, Hussin Mohd Razak, said his client had written several checks to the company yesterday for the settlement.

“She will soon discuss the amount agreed by the company,” he said.

Hussin spoke to reporters after Rina was unable to appear before Deputy High Court Clerk Farah Shuhada Ramli for yesterday’s judgment debtor’s subpoena hearing.

Then the court set October 22 for another case management.

“God willing, my client will attend to you. We can solve this problem as soon as possible.

“Unfortunately, today he has an emergency that he cannot avoid,” Hussin said.

Lawyer Mark Ho, who represents French production company Sarl Novovision, said Rina had proposed a deal with her client, but could not disclose the terms.

“I am sorry, but I do not have the freedom to reveal anything about it pending the legal proceedings.

“However, today the minister has delivered checks as payment in installments and on that basis, the court granted a new date for the summons of the debtor of the judgment,” he said.

The court issues a subpoena from the judgment debtor to the judgment debtor to compel the person to appear in court to provide information about their assets and how they can be disposed of to settle the judgment debt.

By virtue of a clause in the application of the summons, the amount claimed must not be disclosed to the public.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Rina, through her now defunct companies Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd, Fine Mobile Network Sdn Bhd, and Fine TV Network Sdn Bhd, had purchased several comedy shows and documentaries worth millions of ringgit from the Paris-based chain. production company between 2011 and 2013.

The companies were closed between December 2013 and August 2015.

In May 2014, Rina and another company director, Ida Rahayu Md Noor, signed a guarantee agreement with Sarl Novovision whereby they would personally and jointly assume all the responsibilities of the companies.

In April last year, both sides entered a consent judgment after the women’s chief of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia failed to resolve the disputed amount.
