Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press release yesterday (9 September) that of that number, 18 are local broadcasts involving 16 Malaysians and two foreigners, while the remaining six are imported cases. .

Cases of local transmission were detected in Kedah (16) and two in Sabah.

“Of the 18 cases, 13 are in the Sungai group, one case in the Telaga group, one in the Tawar group in Kedah, while the remaining two cases are Sabah in the Benteng LD group,” he said.

One case, which did not belong to any cluster, was detected by screening after the patient showed symptoms of the virus in Kedah at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

Of the six imported cases, three were Malaysians and the other three were foreigners from Bangladesh (two cases in Negri Sembilan, one case in Kuala Lumpur), China (one case in Sabah), Indonesia (one in Sabah), Singapore (one case in Sarawak) and South Korea (one case in Selangor).

“The three foreigners who tested positive today entered the country before the border restriction was applied for the first time on September 7. The two cases from Bangladesh arrived in the country on September 6, while the single case from China entered the country on September 5 and was examined on the following day. The results for these imported cases reported positive today, ”he said.

Noor Hisham said that currently the Sungai group involving three states, Kedah (a total of 38 positive cases and 586 are awaiting results), Penang (30 pending results) and Perlis (one positive case and three are awaiting test results. ).

As for the Telaga group involving Kedah and Penang, he said a total of 11 positive cases have been detected in Kedah to date, but there were no positive cases in Penang with only one test result pending.

Tawar’s group, on the other hand, has reported 68 positive cases in Kedah and 11 tested positive in Penang, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 79.

Yesterday seven new cases were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,143.

However, seven patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and four of them require respiratory assistance.

Noor Hisham revealed in a statement that the positive cases among ministry staff are mainly due to transmission among health workers themselves, which represents a total of 53%.

“According to the result of the investigation, 53% represent more than half of the health personnel infected with the Covid-19 virus and had hired other health personnel. These leaders mainly contracted the infections from each other and only 22% contracted the virus from the community, ”he said.

He clarified that to date no health worker from the ministry has been infected with the virus while handling patients with Covid-19.

Noor Hisham urged healthcare personnel to ensure that preventive measures are taken at all times, especially during service.
