JOHOR BARU: The police arrested four people for offering fake jobs on a cruise ship to unsuspecting victims.

Seri Alam OCPD Superintendent Ismail Dollah said the group led its victims to believe that by paying RM250 to a company registered under one of the suspects, they could get a job on a cruise ship docked at the Pasir Gudang Ferry Terminal.

“They convinced about 30 victims that the jobs were available as of September 15.

“We arrested the suspects, in their 30s, while conducting an interview at a dispatch center in Plentong, here on Tuesday (September 8),” it said in a statement.

During the arrest, police seized some documents, including job application forms and shipping notices from the Department of the Navy, Supt Ismail added.

“According to the Pasir Gudang Ferry Terminal, no jobs of this type were offered on any of the ships at the terminal at the moment.

“The public, especially job seekers, are reminded to exercise caution as activities are not allowed on board the cruise ships during the recovery motion control (MCO) order period at any ferry terminal or port. “, said.

Supt Ismail said the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

He also urged other victims in the case to come forward and assist in police investigations.
