PUTRAJAYA: Police detained some 118 people in pubs and nightclubs as part of the government’s operation on violations of the recovery movement control (MCO) order.
Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the 118 people were among the 221 caught committing various crimes related to the recovery of MCO by authorities on Tuesday (September 8).
“Of the 221 offenders, 212 were issued enclosures, eight were held while one individual was released on bail.
“Among the MCO recovery crimes that were found during the controls by the authorities are ‘pub and disco activities’ (118 people), not complying with the physical distance rules (43), not providing registration facilities for clients (34), not wearing masks (18), businesses that operate beyond the stipulated time (five) and not following quarantine orders (one), ”said Ismail Sabri in his daily statement on Wednesday (September 9 ).
The arrests were made during police checks on Tuesday (September 8), who lead the government’s task force on compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
On Tuesday, 13,769 officers from the task force conducted a total of 61,462 controls.
The locations monitored included supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as air, land and water terminals.
The defense minister said police, the Malaysian Border Security Agency and Armed Forces personnel had erected 72 barricades across the country on Tuesday under “Ops Benteng.”
“A total of 24,972 vehicles were searched and 11 arrests were made,” he said.
Ops Benteng was created to control the country’s borders and stop any illegal entry, which at the same time also prevents the transmission of Covid-19 from abroad.
Ismail Sabri also said that between July 24 and September 8, a total of 25,688 people entered the country through international entry points.
All of the people were placed in 70 hotels, eight public training institutions and private institutions of higher education across the country to undergo their mandatory quarantine process.
So far, 10,390 people are in quarantine while another 15,230 have already been discharged.
Another 68 people have been sent to hospitals for treatment.
Ismail Sabri also said that the Ministry of Housing and Local Government had conducted nine Covid-19 sanitation exercises in various states: Penang (four operations), Sabah (two), Melaka (two) and Johor (one).
He said that since March 30, the ministry had carried out 9,883 sanitation operations in 134 areas.
Ismail Sabri said on Tuesday that enforcement officials from the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs have carried out 683 checks at commercial facilities on compliance with SOPs.
“Based on the verifications, it is found that 1,582 locals have adhered to the government SOPs. Another 14 companies received advice, while another two received warnings for not following SOPs, ”he said.
