KUALA LUMPUR: An investigative document has been opened on the statements of MP Pasir Puteh Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh (Photo) about the Bible, says the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

“We have opened an investigation document because police complaints were made.

“Witness statements have been recorded and we are now awaiting a report from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” said Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador after overseeing several handover ceremonies at the Royal Malaysian Police School. here on Wednesday (September 9).

Zawawi has been criticized for his recent statement in Parliament that the Bible has been “distorted” during a debate on the 2020 Road Transport (Amendment) Bill to impose stiffer fines for driving under the influence of alcohol.

He had claimed that no religion allowed its followers to consume alcohol and that the Bible had been distorted or changed to allow it.

On September 4, two members of the Sabah STAR party filed a lawsuit against MP Pasir Puteh to prevent him from making more speeches that hurt Christians in the country.

Lawyer Marcel Jude, who is the head of the STAR division of Tanjung Aru Sabah, and Margaret Binsing, a member of the Tambunan party, also filed a blasphemous defamation lawsuit against him in the Kota Kinabalu High Court.
