Hundreds more arrested for MCO violations in pubs and nightclubs

PUTRAJAYA: Police arrested 873 people who violated the recovery movement control order (MCO), most of whom were caught for participating in pub and disco activities.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that 580 people were arrested in pubs and nightclubs on Sunday (September 6) by the task force monitoring compliance with the order.

He said other crimes include failing to observe social distancing (118 people), not wearing masks (52), operating businesses after hours (52), and illegal immigrants (39).

Police also arrested business premises operators who failed to provide a log book for customer registration (22), suspected vice activities (seven), quarantine violations (two), and who prevented public officials from complying with their functions (one).

“Of those arrested, the police turned over precincts to 797 criminals, dispatched 71 people and allowed five to be released on bail,” he said at a regular briefing here on Monday (September 7).

The task force carried out 58,147 checks on Sunday, including at transport terminals, government offices, street vendors, banks and factories.
